The BRD
Sim™ – Classic V˛ is a popular member of our high end
range of steering devices. It combines all the best
aspects of previous models but is enhanced further to
provide the best level of precision and control.
The Classic V˛ is designed to allow for optimum
precision and control, with a retro racing feel and
style and will help you to obtain superior performance
and aid you in performing to your highest level.
User
Profile:
The BRD Sim™ – Classic V˛ is aimed at drivers who
are serious about their sim racing and require a well
balanced and predictable controller suited to
particular racing genres. They probably race mainly
Grand Prix Legends and NASCAR type titles.
Features:
-
Unique
patented steel steering column design in British
Racing Green powder coating. This sleek and ergonomic
design evokes everything associated with motor sport -
finesse, quality and performance.
-
The
internals of the steering column are again a unique
feature of this system. The return to centre mechanism
is based on our tried and tested compression spring
based dual ballraced cam system. This has proved to be
just about indestructible and will not wear out. It
allows you to experience a very progressive and linear
feel through out the 270° of steering rotation. It
also means that the steering will always return
positively to centre. The precise action of the
steering mechanism will mean that you can be confident
in your driving.
-
The
steering wheel is a 12” fully round red leather race
wheel, with polished metal spokes.
-
The
steering wheel is attached securely by three bolts to
a CNC machined and anodised aluminium hub. The weight
and precision of this hub is a critical feature in
providing the overall balance of the steering system.
-
Behind
the wheel is fitted a powder coated steel F1 style
paddle gear shifter, longer than on other models to
reflect the size of the wheel. The gear change
switches which the lever activates are of the highest
quality, in keeping with the concept of the overall
design. The switches are described as ‘Professional
quick break’ and are of military quality. ‘Quick
break’ refers to the short throw of the switch,
allowing you to change gear more quickly than with a
traditional switch.
-
The
Classic V˛ is provided with 2 additional buttons.
These gold contact switches are rated for 10 million
actions, to provide the high degree of reliability and
performance needed for competitive racing.
-
The
Classic V˛ is fitted as standard with a new type of
potentiometer. The potentiometer is rated for 10
million turns and has a superb level of linearity of
+/- 2%. It means that you will have even greater
precision and smoothness in the output from your
steering device, which will translate to improved
consistency in your racing. The additional life cycle
means that the potentiometer will be good for years to
come and you can be secure in the knowledge that your
steering will not let you down at the crucial moment.
-
The
unique design of the steering column gives tremendous
flexibility for mounting you steering device, and
means there are no brackets or fixings to interfere
with your legs etc. The steering is supplied as
standard with a high impact plastic baseboard to which
the steering column is secured by three hand tightened
bolts. The baseboard is then held in place by your
monitor or screen, or in fact any reasonably heavy
object. This gives the sturdiest of mountings and
ensures your steering will not slip or move in use.
The optimum method for using the steering involves one
of the following options:
-
The
steering can be fastened directly to your desk via a
quick release brass fastener system we offer, (see the
shop for more details). This method does require you
to drill the fasteners into your desk or mounting
surface but does give you the most perfect fixing.
-
The other
alternative is to mount the column and your choice of
pedals directly onto one of our specially designed
chassis systems such as the Race Frame Pro™ or Game
Frame™ chassis.
-
The
Classic V˛ is a passive system and does not
incorporate force feedback technology. The purpose of
the design is to maximise performance and to date the
state of the force feedback technology does not allow
for this. We are therefore of the opinion that a
precise well balanced passive device will provide a
more consistent and higher performing system than one
based on current force feedback technology. For more
information on the discussion on force feedback,
please visit the news item on this topic.

Compatibility:
The BRD Sim™ – Classic V˛ is compatible with both
versions of our pedal systems, the BRD Sim™ – Speed7™
and the BRD Sim™ – Pro pedal controls. Both these
pedal systems are USB compatible.
NB The Classic V˛ steering control will not operate as
a stand alone device when purchased on its own. It
must be combined with either the Pro or Speed7™ pedal
controls to operate or by the addition of a special
adapter which will allow it to plug in as a USB device
on its own. The only way that the Classic V2 can
operate with another manufacturers pedal controls is
by the addition of this separate adapter. This adapter
is only available by special request. Please contact
us for more details.
The Classic V˛ has been tested on all the major
platforms including Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP
and with all major PC simulation and games titles.
